Introduction

The Q&A Interaction Module enables structured question and answer sessions during live classes in Crystal. It allows students to ask questions without disrupting the class flow and gives faculty full control to moderate, manage, and respond to questions in an organized way. The goal is to improve engagement, reduce chat clutter, and ensure important questions are not missed.

What can you do with the Q&A module?

Faculty

  • Enable or disable Q&A globally during a live session

  • View all student questions in a dedicated Q&A panel

  • Moderate questions before they go live

  • Approve, hide, delete, or mark questions as answered

  • Sort and filter questions based on status and priority

  • See visual indicators when new questions arrive

Students

  • Ask questions during a live session when Q&A is enabled

  • View questions asked by other students in the same batch

  • Upvote relevant questions

  • See which questions are answered

Using the Q&A module

Enabling or disabling Q&A (Faculty)

  1. Start a live class session.

  2. Open Host Controls.

  3. Toggle Q&A ON or OFF.

When Q&A is ON, students can ask questions.
When Q&A is OFF, the option to ask questions is hidden.
By default, Q&A is OFF for all sessions.

Managing questions during class (Faculty)

  1. Open the Interactions card.

  2. Select the Q&A section.

  3. View all submitted questions.

  4. Take actions on questions as needed:

    • Approve

    • Hide

    • Delete

    • Mark as answered

Faculty can filter and sort questions using:

  • Show: All, Unanswered, Answered, Hidden

  • Sort by: Pending first, Oldest first, Newest first, Popular

A visual indicator appears on the Q&A card when new questions are posted.

Asking and upvoting questions (Student)

  1. During a live class, open Settings.

  2. Select Ask Question.

  3. Enter the question using the chat-style input.

  4. Submit the question.

Students can view and upvote questions asked by others within the same batch. Questions are visible only during the live session.

Engagement limits and behavior

  • Maximum of 100 questions per live session

  • Each question can be up to 1000 characters long

  • Images can be included in questions

  • Questions are session-specific and not visible after the session ends

  • Cross-batch visibility is not supported

Data & settings

  • Moderation is enabled by default

  • Q&A visibility and controls are managed by the session host

  • All interactions happen in real time during the live session

Faculty
Full control to enable or disable Q&A and manage questions

Students
Can ask and upvote questions when Q&A is enabled

Academic Heads
Same access as faculty when hosting a live session

Troubleshooting

Students cannot ask questions
Check if Q&A is enabled in Host Controls and ensure the session is live.

Question failed to post
A retry message is shown. Retry submission and check network connectivity.

Moderation sync failed
The system falls back to non-moderated posting and shows a warning to faculty.

Questions not updating
Wait briefly for real-time sync or ask students to refresh if needed.

FAQs

Is Q&A enabled by default?
No. Faculty must manually enable it for each session.

Can students see questions from other batches?
No. Questions are visible only within the same batch.

Are questions available after the class ends?
No. Q&A is limited to the live session only.

Can faculty limit how many questions students ask?
There is a system limit of 100 questions per session. Individual limits are not configurable.
