Separate Student Controls for Chat, Mic, and Video give teachers finer control over how individual students participate during a live class. Instead of a single all-or-nothing block, teachers can now manage microphone, chat, and video permissions independently, allowing better classroom moderation without cutting off participation entirely.
Teachers
Mute or unmute a student’s microphone without affecting chat or video
Restrict or allow a student’s chat access independently
Restrict or allow a student’s video independently
Use the Block action to restrict mic, chat, and video together when needed
Students
Clearly see which permissions are enabled or restricted
Continue participating through allowed channels even if one control is restricted
Start a live class.
Open the student list.
For a specific student, view the available controls:
Mute or Unmute Mic
Restrict or Allow Chat
Restrict or Allow Video
Toggle any control as needed. Each control works independently.
Changes apply immediately and do not affect other permissions unless explicitly changed.
Select the Block option for a student.
This action restricts all three permissions at once:
Microphone
Chat
Video
Block is intended for full restriction scenarios.
Mic, chat, and video permissions are independent controls.
Changing one permission does not automatically change the others.
Block applies all three restrictions together.
Student interfaces update in real time to reflect permission changes.
Restricted controls appear disabled or greyed out for the student.
Teachers
Can manage mic, chat, and video permissions for individual students during live classes.
Students
Can use only the permissions currently allowed by the teacher.
Student says chat or mic is not working
Ask the student to check if the control is restricted. The disabled option will appear greyed out.
Permissions do not update immediately
Wait a few seconds for sync. If needed, reapply the toggle.
Block was applied accidentally
Manually re-enable mic, chat, or video as required using the individual controls.
Can a student be muted but still chat?
Yes. Teachers can mute the microphone while keeping chat enabled.
Does restricting video mute the microphone?
No. Video restriction affects only the camera.
What happens when Block is used?
All three permissions. mic, chat, and video. are restricted together.
Can students override these controls?
No. All permissions are controlled by the teacher.
